New scale this week! A Major! I really start liking the sharp key signatures when they start to get more complicated. I am also the weirdo that likes E Major and B Major!
It can get boring practicing scales the same way all the time, so I like to encourage my students to apply the key signatures to certain exercises. This way the student has to really know what sharps (or flats) are in the key signature. Some of my favorite exercises are in the Taffanel book.
The exercises that I recommend for my students are #3 and #7. Exercise #3 is a scale exercise starting on different scale degrees, and exercise #7 is a nice finger twister. When switching key signatures becomes too easy, I will ask them to change the articulation.
Do you have a favorite exercise book to practice different key signatures?
